Research on Endotoxin Nanoparticles Uses Brookhaven’s NanoBrook 90Plus Particle Size Analyzer

A feature from Particle and Fibre Toxicology entitled “Contamination of Nanoparticles by Endotoxin: Evaluation of Different Test Methods” discussed a convenient method to evaluate endotoxin contamination in nanoparticle samples using Brookhaven’s NanoBrook 90Plus Particle Size Analyzer.

In this study, endotoxin particles were characterized through a dynamic light scattering (DLS) technique using Brookhaven’s NanoBrook 90Plus Particle Analyzer. The endotoxin particles were then tested using three different limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) assays namely: gel clot, turbidimetric (increase in turbidity) and chromogenic (color formation) assay. Through the series of experimental methods conducted, the researchers were able to demonstrate the possibility of nanoparticle interference with endotoxin detection systems, thus stressing the importance of a carefully chosen test method even further.
