The International Journal of Pharmaceuticals presented a study entitled, “Characterization Of Nanoparticle Uptake By Endothelial Cells” by Jasmine Davda and Vinod Labhasetwar. It characterized the uptake of biodegradable nanoparticles by endothelial cells in cell culture through photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS).

The researchers used a Brookhaven NanoBrook ZetaPlus zeta potential analyzer to obtain the diameter size of the nanoparticles that were formulated using poly DL-lactide-co-glycolide polymer containing bovine serum albumin as a model protein and 6-coumarin as a fluorescent marker. Through the series of tests conducted, it was found that nanoparticles could be used for localizing therapeutic agents or genes into endothelial cells. Nanoparticles localized in the endothelium could provide prolonged drug effects because of their sustained release characteristics and could protect the encapsulated agent from enzyme degradation. Along with the findings, strategies for endothelial delivery of nanoparticles in vivo were also proposed.

Endothelium is an important target for drug or gene therapy because of its vital role in the biological system. To ensure accuracy in investigating therapeutic approaches involving Endothelium, experts should use equipment that provides precise results. The NanoBrook ZetaPlus zeta potential analyzer is among Brookhaven Instruments’ products that are technologically advanced, reliable and convenient. The NanoBrook ZetaPlus zeta potential analyzer is easy-to-use, intuitive to operate, yet offers flexibility and a full range of means for those who wish to tune their experiments to specific circumstances.
