Information from Complex Systems

The School of Mechanical and Production Engineering at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, uses a Brookhaven Instrumetns BI-200SM Research Goniometer with a BI-9000AT Autocorrelator to characterize complex systems, such as block copolymers, associate polymers and surfactant systems.

Michael KC Tam, Associate Professor at the School said, “The goal of our work is to correlate the microstructure of these systems, determined from static and dynamic light scattering, with the macroscopic properties. This comprehensive set of complimentary equipment and accessories has enabled us to obtain good, reliable light scattering data for understanding the microstructure of complex systems.”

He continued, “The BI-200SM Research Goniometer system is one of the workhorses of our research group. The alignment system, the neutral density filters – which reduce intensity when studying systems that change phases under different conditions – and the filtration system are among the most important features of the instrument that make it especially suitable for our work.”

Professor Tam concluded, “We evaluated instruments from other suppliers but decided on Brookhaven Instruments because of the price, the outstanding features and the excellent service support. Compared to many other equipment suppliers, I rank Brookhaven very highly.”
