“Particle Shape Effects On Thermophysical Properties Of Alumina Nanofluids” a study conducted by Elena Timofeeva, Jules Routbort and Dileep Singh, was featured in the Journal of Applied Physics. In this study, the researchers used Brookhaven’s NanoBrook 90Plus Particle Size Analyzer to determine dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements of the nanofluids. This enabled them to investigate the thermal conductivity and viscosity of alumina nanoparticles in fluid.

The researchers studied the effect of nanoparticle shape on viscosity and thermal conductivity of alumina particles in suspensions. The study presented the significance of complex interaction between nanoparticles and base fluids in determining enhancements on the properties observed. Findings showed that a thorough understanding of all the characteristics and thermophysical properties of nanoparticle suspensions is needed in the evaluation of nanofluids for various applications.
